Description :
This thesis presents an innovative process for the removal of trace metal elements using elastic adsorbent materials capable of being mechanically compressed to enhance adsorption. An experimental device was developed to apply compression–release cycles on a melamine foam functionalized with polydopamine. In batch mode, mechanical compression significantly improves the adsorption efficiency of lead (Pb²?) by reducing internal diffusion limitations. In semi-continuous mode, mechanical actuation increases the useful adsorption time by maintaining a very low residual concentration. Finally, a new coating successive alternation of two foams samples enabled the selective separation of palladium (Pd²?), platinum (Pt??), and ruthenium (Ru³?) in acidic media, based on their distinct adsorption kinetics.
